Rainy Day at the Museum

Tuesday has become JD's "field trip day" - BUT - our original plans for today got rained out. YIKES - it rained today!!!! Instead of our planned outdoor activity we went to the Texas History Museum. JD enjoyed the show at the special effects theater. He especially liked the snake that bit him in the behind.
We found this astronaut.
Walking through the museum JD recognized this picture of Teddy Roosevelt. As a social studies teacher, I'd like to take credit for his knowledge of history and claim my child is gifted. I can't! JD is a movie junkie who has watched Night at the Museum too many times.
JD especially enjoyed pushing all the buttons on the exhibits.

Watering Restrictions

We are experiencing a pretty serious drought and under watering restrictions. Here is my plan to bypass the law.

Dogs and boy play in the sprinkler so it isn't watering -- it's entertainment. Actually, it is just DOG singular and boy. Libby loves the water and bites it. Lulu stands on the porch when she sees the sprinkler turned on.
Looks like fun and it's keeping the grass from turning completely brown.

Birthday Party #1

This is a two birthday party weekend. The party was at a gymnastics gym with lots of equpment to jump and play on. JD and his friends Cole and Rowan line up to run down the trampoline. When they get to the end they jump into . . .
' . . . a pit filled with foam. JD was funny trying to explain the foam pit to dad. He said you jump into blue blocks but the blocks were squishy. YEAH - I know my pictures are fuzzy today. I'm not smart enough to know why.
JD jumped on one of the many trampolines.
Finally it was cake time. YUM!! Happy Birthday Lucy.

HOT HOT HOT

When I got into the car after gymnastics at 5:30 this afternoon the outside temperature reading on the car said 111. WOW!!! The weatherman predicted today would be 105! We'll have to watch the news and see what the official high was. It is just TOO HOT!!

It's Fun To Swim at the YMCA

We are doing swimming lessons in the afternoon but I started a bad habit. When we were hurrying from school I would stop and get chicken nuggets on the way to class. We don't have to hurry so fast now that it is summer vacation but JD thinks he still needs chicken.
We eat our chicken in the YMCA lounge next to Lola bunny. JD says Lola loves him. This cute little YMCA mascot gets lots of love.
After taking the Pike class half a dozen times JD was finally promoted to the Eel class. Today the class did his FAVORITE thing. They got to ride in the boat.
Since JD was in the front he said he was driving.

Dentist

JD had his first visit to the dentist today. We went to a children's dentist that was highly recommended to us.
As soon as we walked in JD said, "Wow games" and proceeded to play while we waited.
Waiting inside wasn't quite so much fun. On some cartoon JD had seen the dentist give a shot. That was what REALLY worried him all morning was that he was going to have to have a shot. The dentist was very nice but gave us some bad news. JD has a chipped molar that has developed a cavity. OH NO!! It's a good thing the dentist is nice because we are going to have to see her again.

Happy Father's Day

We went to visit Grandpa for Father's Day.
George helped Grandpa try out his new Father's Day fish fryer.
JD played with his cousins.
The guys all posed for a few pictures. Happy Father's Day everyone!

The Great Outdoors --- INDOORS

We went on a Saturday outing to Bass Pro Shops. There were tons of fun outdoor things to explore. JD drove this four wheeler.

He checked out this hunting blind.
In the kids craft area JD painted the plaster cast of a beaver foot. No beaver foot has ever been so colorful.
By far his favorite thing was the boats. JD drove lots of boats but this pontoon boat was his favorite.
After all that activity JD just couldn't handle the PX. He fell asleep at the wheel.

YUM!!

Driving home from story time this morning JD spotted this sign and correctly surmised that it was a candy store. Ahhh, what a smart little boy - or maybe he's just a boy who really likes candy. Of course we had to stop and go in. Chewy pralines -- YUM!!!

Fishermen

The proof is in the pictures. It looks like George really was fishing with the guys last week. He had a good time and we will enjoy eating the fish.

Fun New Pool

We met some friends at a fun new pool today. I told JD we were going to a pool with a slide and he decided we were going to Six Flags. He's seen too many commercials for the Six Flags water park on TV. "More flags -- more fun."
JD splashed in the fountain.
The kids posed for a picture. These kiddos belong to my friends Leah and Mary. We decided it was best if only the kids got their pictures taken in their swim suits.

JD's Chore

I decided if JD wanted dogs he was old enough to feed his dogs. I have to remind him but he does a great job of giving dogs their diner.

Like Father Like Son

George was preparing his fishing gear for his annual trip to the coast when JD decided he would help. JD informed me today that the fishing trip was a "no girls allowed" affair.
After church today JD asked for his blanket and sucker. That always means he is ready for a nap. Sure enough, a few minutes later he was sound asleep. He fell alseep watching the cartoon network in a position that looked JUST LIKE DAD!

Summer Begins

When I originally planned this week JD and I were going to have a big beginning of summer vacation celebration on Friday. That was before we had so much mother and son togetherness on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
We did go see Miss Staci on Friday which involved story reading and of course . . .
DANCING!!!!
The fun continued today with a trip to the movies. JD LOVED Land of the Lost. It was a good 4 year old movie. I wouldn't recommend it to any adults out there. JD loved that "elf" got eaten by a T-rex and then got pooped out again.

It's a Dog's Life

If there's a soft place -- Libby is going to find it.
I changed the sheets on the bed this morning and when I went to put the dirty ones int he washer I found Libby lounging on them. I guess dirty sheets are softer than the floor.
JD and Libby relaxed and watched cartoons on their new bean bag chair

Hooray for Librarians

JD has made quite a few trips to school with me this week. Every time we went by the library he wanted to go in and "visit the books." There aren't too many picture books in our library but that didn't stop our wonderful librarians from finding a treasure for JD.
One of them went in the back and found this bean bag chair. He (AND DOGS) can sit in it while they read. Today was the first day of summer gymnastics. JD tried to keep up with the big boy class and follow instructions. I'm hoping for improvement in the following instructions department as the summer wears on.

The Littlest Puppy

JD went to Bowie for a little end of the year picnic. JD held this little guy who he described as being "the littlest puppy I've ever seen." Don't worry. This is one dog we are NOT adopting. It was cute though!!!!

Last Day of Finals

JD has been feeling a little under the weather the past couple of days. Yesterday he insisted on wearing these "face goggles" to keep his fever down.
We went to see the Dr. this morning and then JD helped this group of students take their final exam. They watched Wall-E when they were done. Hmmmm - age 4 or age 18 - I guess they aren't that different. JD likes playing with the "big bowie kids."
