TWO Fieldtrips

The Eaglets went on TWO field trips today. WOW - that much fun should be illegal.
First they went to Chuck E. Cheese to eat pizza and play. JD and his friend Kate rode some roller coaster simulators.
AND - the rode some more.
This ride was fun. The faster you peddle the higher it goes.
That's a lot of Eaglets in a cage.
Everyone posed for a picture with Chuck before heading back to school.
Back at school the other class kept busy blowing up beach balls. The Eaglet class was FULL of balls when we returned. You can guess what 12 five year olds did next.
The last stop of the day was bowling. MAN am I tired. I have new respect for JD's teachers. I'm used to being with kiddos all day - BUT - not with ones that need their shoes tied and escorts to the bathroom.

Bob Bullock

JD and I had a cultural field trip to the Texas History Museum.
We learned about who Bob Bullock was and how lawmakers and judges use gavels to get people's attention.
We did the twist to the Big Bopper singing Chantilly Lace. After several hours and two movies I was finally able to bribe him to leave with the promise of a happy meal.

Happy Pioneer Day

My birthday is on Pioneer Day (the day Mormon settlers arrived in the Salt Lake valley) so we had a double celebration.
JD and I made this yummy chocolate cupcake. JD decided that since I was a girl my decorations had to be pink flowers.
I chose Joe's Crab Shack for my birthday dinner. In theory, JD likes crabs. About five minutes after I took this picture he threw up his crab all over Joe's floor. He insisted he wasn't sick but I suspect we won't be having crab for quite awhile.
At the Pioneer celebration JD enjoyed petting a goat.
Some of his friends posed with him by our covered wagon.
The boys joined in on the pioneer parade. They started things off alone with this dedicated group of handcart pioneers. FOR SOME MUST PUSH AND SOME MUST PULL AS WE GO MARCHING UP THE HILL . . .
After all that hard work pulling the wagon JD and his friend Lincoln enjoyed a snow cone.

Mini Golf

JD and I went mini golfing this morning. I had high hopes -- this was the golf course where I first played as a child.
Before we started to play JD posed for a couple pictures with Peter Pan . . .
. . . and with this giant T-Rex. It doesn't look like JD is going to be the next Tiger Woods. He insisted on playing the wholes in random order based on how interesting he thought the obstacles were.
Soon, the obstacles were more fun than the game and JD decided to ride the whale.
If you can't quite master a golf club tossing the ball will work. This was one of JD's favorites. When you toss the ball into the hole under the spooky skull it shoots out at the lower level. We played this hole MANY times. I think maybe we need to mature a little more before we try this again.

Independence Weekend with the Ridings

Keith and Nina came for the long weekend. We did all sorts of fun things. Mostly JD was happy because Keith would play pretty much 24/7. We did manage an outing to the dinosaur museum.
JD was the tour guide. He showed Uncle Keith where to look at bugs through a magnifying glass.
Using a microscope is fun.
The visitors were happy to pose for a picture in the boat.
Keith helped JD wash his hands at our favorite BBQ restaurant.
No 4th of July is complete without a few fireworks. We lit some snakes.
The green smoke bomb was extra smelly.
After it got dark Uncle Keith helped JD light his very first ever sparkler.
Come visit us again sometime!
