Back to School

Before we returned to school today I had time to finish one last summer craft project.  This is my Christmas rag quilt.  It is soft and comfy.
We enjoyed a morning at the circus.  The clown nose makes JD look a little cross eyed.  Maybe he'll have to look at higher education that is a little more serious than clown college.
My  big 2nd grader went back to class this year in a portable.  I have nightmares (literally) about my principal making me move to a portable but to JD it seems like a fun.  I LOVE his teacher this year!  We had her for after school voyager last year so we already know one another.
Here's my class on the first day of school -- don't they look eager to learn!  It's JD's 3rd year of school and my 23rd year. My how time flies.

The Last Day

Our last day to do whatever we wanted started with donuts.  The donuts were a bribe -- oops I mean positive reinforcement tool -- to minimize the complaining about shopping for back to school clothes later in the day.
We made a trip to San Marcos to visit the campaign headquarters of Susan Narvaiz.  When I started seeing her signs again I decided that I definately needed a Narvaiz for Senate t-shirt.
After spending some time trying on jeans at the outlet mall it was off to McDonald's for a little playtime.  There were plenty of other kids there to make friends with.

Happy Halloween

Here's my summer quilt.  I know you probably can't tell from this picture, but the fabric is all Halloween themed.  Yes, our family loves Halloween.
I'm not sure why this picture looks like one of those fun house mirrors -- sometimes things just happen when I am working electronics.  There had to be a movie on JD's summer list.  We've been to several this summer.
I don't know if he likes the movies themselves or if he just likes the movie food.

Summer Bucket List

We have had a death in the family.  This 40 year old pecan tree that my dad planted as a nut did not survive last year's brutal drought.
We decided to let our tree on the hands of Joe and have it cut down.
Joe did a good job for a fair price -- despite his bad grammar.
JD and I did two more of the things on our summer bucket list.  He wanted to have lunch at this hamburger place.   Not because the hamburgers are so good - but because they have this cool coke machine where you can select unusual soda combinations like raspberry coke.
We also spent the afternoon at the pool burning off our hamburger lunch.

Playmates

Today begins the last week of summer vacation.  Next week it is back to the teacher meetings.  I told JD to make a list of the things he wants to do before we go back to school and we'll see how much of it we can accomplish.
Number one on his list was a play date with his best friend Lincoln.  What do they like to do best?  Dump out every toy we own on the living room floor and see where their imagination takes them.
Legos are always a favorite.  Gumball tries his best to play along and does a mighty fine job for a bird.

This is the BEST Day EVER!

Every day we were on vacation JD declared it, "the best day ever" starting with a swim in a friend's pool.
Before we got home I was afraid JD might grow gills from being in the pool so long.
 Legoland was a favorite stop.
JD was very serious about driving his lego police car.
The falconer at Medieval Times was happy to pose for a picture.  Too bad Gumball couldn't be there to enjoy some bird entertainment.
I didn't get any swimming pictures because I was just too afraid of dropping my camera in the water.  That's what Great Wold Lodge is all about -- the swimming.
We also spent a night at the Gaylord Texan. JD enjoyed sitting on the balcony of our room that overlooked this amazing atrium.  It's hard to believe that this is all INDOORS.
After all those days of swimming we had a suitcase full of dirty swimsuits and . . .
. . . one tired little boy!

Lego Camp

The Ridings were here to visit us.  I was lazy and didn't take any pictures BUT - we had a great time!  Thanks for coming to see us!  Lego camp was a ton of fun last week.  JD made all sorts of things including the little R2D2 look robot you see here.
