Easter Times Three

What is better than an Easter egg hunt?  THREE Easter egg hunts.
Our first egg hunt was at the school where JD does Karate.  He said the eggs were not hidden very well but you only got 15 seconds in the room to grab what your could.
Our second hunt was at the church.  The eggs were harder to find but there was no time limit so he did a little better here.
Finally, the Easter bunny made a stop at our house.  JD said that was the best egg hunt because he got to have all the eggs to himself.  That was one GIANT egg that the Easter bunny left.
LOOK - it had a package of underwear inside.  Underwear for Easter -- who needs candy?!

Picture Day

I am a bad mom and forgot it was picture day at school when I put JD in this silly t-shirt.  Since he and the t-shirt BOTH had a funny face I decided not to order pictures.
I just cheated and took a picture of the proof that was sent home.
Here is JD's class photo.  SECOND GRADE --- how did that happen so fast.  I love his teacher this year.  It is so funny to me that he has had a couple of the same boys in his class every year since kindergarten.

Sharing a Taco

Gumball is king of the roost.  I caught him sitting on JD's shoulder taking a bite of his taco.  I could never quite capture the moment on film.
The bird discovered the deliciousness of taco all on his own.  Every time JD would take a bite, Gumball would take a bite.
JD's willingness to share only goes so far!

Monkey Boy

I mentioned once before that the boy was part monkey.   Here are the pictures to prove it.

Spring Break

When I asked JD what he wanted to do for spring break this was the first thing on his list. "I WANT TO GO TO THE DINOSAUR MUSEUM."
We've been to this museum so many times I think I've taken pictures of everything in it.  I could provide proof as to how much fun little boys think it is.
Nothing  beats comparing yourself to a Chimp.  AHHH - I can see the resemblance.  If our state legislature has their way, this may be the only way we'll be able to learn about Charles Darwin.  JD has no problem seeing himself as one evolutionary step up from monkeys -- sometimes I think he may be one step DOWN!  It depends on when you are making the comparison.
Dad took a day off and went with us to visit LBJ's ranch.
Here is LBJ's boyhood home.  Since Ladybird's death a couple years ago they have opened up the "Texas White House" so you can go inside.  Unfortunately, they don't allow pictures inside.  DARN
LBJ's plane - he called it Air Force one half.
The ranch is still a WORKING ranch.  We got up close and personal with some of the livestock.  They have marked all the cattle just in case you were thinking about trying to sneak off with one when a ranger wasn't looking.

Rodeo Rumble

In Government class every semester we talk about the regional difference in attitudes about guns.  Why is it that people in the south view guns so much differently than other parts of the country?  Here is the evidence . . .
They grow up doing this.  Guns are recreational sport - not weapons used by bad guys.  AND - here in the south we start learning about how fun they are at a very young age.
It was time for the annual Rodeo Rumble kids run.  JD posed with Percy the pig before running past us in a blur.
 There he goes!
I though JD was a little too big to ride a pony in a circle but he said no --- he wanted to ride the horse.
Of all the things we did I think this was his favorite.  If you go to the petting zoo first thing in the morning the goats are extra hungry and get a little aggressive about wanting food.
He and dad rode this round and round ride that makes me sea sick.
I didn't know that carnivals were allowed to give you a fish anymore.  BUT - here it is the fish JD won for throwing a ping pong ball into a little fish bowl.  Poor fish - he got a name and a bowl and we went to petsmart and got him food --- AND THEN --- he died and we flushed him. Tears were involved -- and all over a fish with a petsmart price of 13 cents.  BAD CARNIVAL FISH!!!
JD meandered through a few carnival mazes.
We topped the day off with an airbrushed tattoo.  Except for the fish incident it was a great day.  I guess even the death of a fish can be considered a lesson learned --- never take a fish from a carnie with no front teeth.

Promotions

It was a weekend of promotions for JD.  He earned a new martial arts belt.  This one is white with a yellow stripe
The martial arts studio we go to is owned by a husband and wife team.  Here the husband takes off his old belt.
The wife puts on his new belt.  Although both instructors are black belts the wife is actually a higher rank than her husband.  HOORAY for women.
Here is the entire group of promotions.  We especially like Oscar (the adult seated closest to JD).  He is the one who ends up doing most of the actual hands on teaching with the youngest children.
We also go in a cub scout promotion at the Blue and Gold banquet.  Here JD plays with his buddies while waiting for the program to begin.
Our cub master channeled his inner knight and helped perform the ceremony.
JD was awarded his wolf badge and was promoted to bear.
WOW - that is one tall knight.
