The Boy and His Dog

I caught JD laying on Lulu's bed with her this morning. He was just singing to her and relaxing.
When he heard me take a picture he said, "now take one of me making a silly face." Here is JD's silly face. I think Lulu tried to make a silly face too.

Summer Continues

We continue to enjoy our summer with some fun craft projects at JD's school.
This week was fairy tale week. JD made a castle out of recycled stuff, two dragon puppets (one from a sock and one from a paper bag) and a shield. SERIOUSLY - his teachers are geniuses to think all these projects up.
We went on a field trip to see Toy Story 3. These 3 children posed for a silly picture.
When others arrived we had to be more serious. The little girl to the left of JD (in the blue shorts) is his best friend Kate. JD always asks if he is going to be as tall as Kate. Since Kate's mom is 6 feet tall I have to tell him --- "probably not." Kate only has brothers so even though she is a girl everyone says she plays like a boy.
There were a LOT of little Eagles at the theater. They were all very well behaved.
We visited the library and the playground at the school JD will go to in the fall.
Dad had a craving for Chinese food. JD worked hard to try to eat with "chomp sticks."
It was hard but he did manage to get a few bites into his mouth.

Hardtack

THIS:
is hardtack. It is apparently what pioneers and civil war soldiers ate. I am making way too much of it for the youth to take on their pioneer trek this weekend. JD said he would help with the task but as soon as he found out the dough didn't taste like cookie dough he was finished helping. I'm not sure how the pioneers made this stuff without a kitchen aid. I guess if you were hungry enough you would eat it. George just wasn't THAT hungry when I offered it to him for breakfast this morning.

This Week at School

JD had lots of fun this week at school. Their theme was legends and myths.
Here he is dressed in his Roman Solider outfit. His helmet is made out of a gallon milk jug.
His class also went bowling which was super fun! Here is Miss Erin reminding him not to cross the line while he's throwing his ball.
There were about 12 kiddos from his class. Those are some brave teachers! They took 12 5 year olds out in public.
What great bowling technique!
JD bowled on the all boy team. He can hardly wait to go again.

MAGIC

The theme at JD's school this week was magic. We've not been to school many days this week but went on Friday to see the magician.
Here is the REAL magic. Look at all those children sitting quietly waiting for the show to start.
John the magician was cheesy but funny to the kiddos.

It's in the boy DNA

We've been car shopping and this is the one JD picked out. He liked it because it was red and had a bitey snake on it. Fast cars must be in the boy DNA.

Dinosaur Groupies

It's official, we're dinosaur groupies. Today we hit the road and traveled 90 miles to see robotic dinosaurs.
This T-Rex outside the museum moved and made some pretty scary sounds. We liked the Jurassic Park looking cage.
There were other dinosaurs inside the museum. This Triceratops seemed harmless enough.
When we got inside the exhibit where it was dark and there were lots of moving, growling dinos JD seemed a little more apprehensive.
There were other fun, interactive exhibits. Here JD used a pulley to lift himself on a tractor seat.
This giant bolt moved water.
JD practiced his percussion skills. It was a fun, educational day!

Dinosaurs AGAIN

Yesterday I told JD he could do whatever he wanted after he went to the Doctor. (I thought shots were going to be involved and I would need a bribe.) He chose jumping and had tears when I told him we couldn't go to the dinosaur museum after that because it was closed. Today he asked me every 30 minutes or so what time it was followed by, "is the dinosaur museum opened yet?"
A promise is a promise --- so here we are in front of his favorite place in town --- The Dinosaur Museum!!
He decided the teeth on this saber tooth tiger statue were scary.
What dinosaur museum would be complete without bones? People bones are interesting too.
This exhibit teaches us that chimp DNA is 99% like people DNA. I have to agree! At times JD definitely seems like he is part chimpanzee.
No trip to the dinosaur museum is complete without a stop and the wall of plastic bugs in the gift shop.
We picked up our museum passport. When we visit 7 museums free pizza is involved. I think we can do it!
After we left JD wanted to go to the President's museum too. REALLY???? That wasn't part of the original plan but OK! Gotta balance that science with some social studies.

The Last Days of School

The last days of school are always a little happy and sad at the same time.
One of my favorite students Greg won this trophy representing my class at a school board candidate forum. He asked some great questions to prospective school board members.
Final exam days end early. I got to JD's school a little too early and found all the children still napping. Ahhhh, they're so cute when they are sleeping.
In preparation for summer they made "Hawaii" in their classroom.
We are saying goodbye to our two favorite teachers and moving on to the next class. Here is Ms. Kara and JD holding the squid he made. We love you Ms. Kara.
We are sad to leave Ms. Debbie too. We learned lots of important lessons from her.
After the doctor pronounced JD healthy at his 5 year old check up he got to bounce at the jumpy gym.
