Crack for Dogs

I've decided tennis balls are like crack for dogs. I got some old worn out tennis balls from a certain high school athletic department and took them home. YES - I had permission to take the balls home. Apparently they actually do wear out so that the tennis team can't use them.
JD looked at my bag of old balls and asked if we could have a "ball party." HUH???? When I said OK he proceeded to dump out the whole bag of balls and the dog went NUTS!!
JD and Lulu had a ball -- pun intended.

Primary Program

Today was JD's first Primary program. All of the children ages 3-11 are in primary and once a year they put on a program at church where they all have a part to say and sing as a group. JD said his part very well but got a little silly during the songs. Dad dressed up and went with us to see JD. Aren't my boys handsome?!

Thriller

JD still loves spooky videos. We have been watching Michael Jackson dance with zombies in Thriller. It's spooky, but not too spooky and JD seems to understand that it is all "just pretend."
He has been working on his Michael Jackson dance moves and when we saw a Thriller jacket in a Halloween store JD decided he needed one. WELL - they only come in big people sizes and cost lots of money so Mommy said -- "NO, you have enough costumes!!" JD's response - "It is not a costume, it's a JACKET." Now how can you argue with that logic. Logically or not, I still said "NO."

Coming home from school yesterday JD worried, "Kate (one of JD's classmates) says Michael Jackson died." He wouldn't believe me when I told him Kate was right. After all, there he is right there on the TV almost every night at our house.

Fun at the Pumpkin Patch

We went to the pumpkin patch for some fun. There were pumpkins of all sizes.
BIG ONES!
and little ones
There were some scarecrows set up for pictures.
Best of all there was JUMPING!
We came home and turned our pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern. JD held it just long enough for a picture and then decided it was too heavy.
You can't tell from this picture, but JD insisted that we turn out all the lights and eat dinner by jack-0-lantern light. He even shared some pizza with his new friend.

Football Friday

JD went to the football game this evening to cheer on his favorite team. It was nice and cool so we got to wear a sweater for the first time all season.
The little boys next to us were eating sour candy. JD BEGGED for some until I finally gave in.
I personally gave the candy a yucky two thumbs down but it made JD so happy he could hardly stand it.

Dead Battery

We got in the car this evening to go to swim lessons and NOTHING! I turned they key to my car and NOTHING!
JD was on the case. First he helped dad select the appropriate tools.
Then while he worked he kept reassuring me, "don't worry Mommy, we will fix it."
Finally we ended up at Sears where the Christmas decorations were already out. "It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas . . . " Thanks to dad and JD my car is now back in working order. Thanks guys!

Happy Halloween

Have you noticed our family (well, mainly JD) likes Halloween. We put some paper decorations up outside but the wind blew them down and they got wet. JD said what we needed was "hard" decorations like the neighbors.
So this afternoon we went to the store in search of "hard" more weather proof Halloween decorations. Among the things we got was this skeleton. It was outside but JD had to keep going out to look at it so we just moved it into the house.
JD said the skeleton "kind of loves me" but Lulu is not so sure.
She thought our new decor needed to be barked out. Hmmmm, it may have to go back outside if that keeps up.

Fire Truck

The Fire Truck came to JD's school this morning.
JD and his friends waited patiently for it to be their turn.
We listened to the fire fighters presentation.
They explained that a smoke detector was like a nose. It smells smoke and lets us know when there is fire.
Finally, we got to go inside the truck.
It was all very exciting!

Goings On

What's happening at our house this week??
JD is getting much better at writing his letters. He REALLY wanted to help me with my homework on Friday. He's not quite up to my school work but I can't wait until he his. With my luck at that point he won't want to help anymore.
One of our many "This Old House" problems has been a leaky bathtub faucet. JD REALLY wanted to help with that too. He's such a thoughtful little boy. AGAIN - his help isn't all that helpful but just wait - someday he'll be my little handyman.
Krispy Kreme has donuts with Halloween themed sprinkles. We had to try them out. JD's verdict -- YUMMY!
We went to a friend's birthday party. All the children paid extra close attention to the safety video BEFORE . . .
JUMPING!!

Indoctrination

Yes it is true, I am indoctrinating my child. He knows who Barak Obama is and can recognize his picture. I showed him a picture of George Bush and asked him who it was. He had no idea. That's ok JD -- I'd just as soon forget GW too. To give the Republicans equal time I have balanced Obama with Teddy Roosevelt. Walking out of my classroom last week JD pointed to a poster of Mt. Rushmore that I have on the wall and said, "Look Mommy, Teddy Roosevelt." Maybe I should be worried about balancing his Social Studies education with some Science. I can only teach him what I know though --- and I just don't know much science.

Rainy Saturday!

It has rained off and on all day. With nothing better to do JD and I have played on the computer quite a bit. Here we are doing a little disco routine. Jib Jab is JD's new favorite web site. He will sing "Obama Saves the Day" for you if you ask. Check out the video on jib jab. It is pretty funny.

Pep Rally Day

JD came to school this afternoon for a pep rally.
Before it started JD did a little work on the computer.
When the cheerleaders throw things into the crowd they always aim at the cute boys --- EVEN if those cute boys are only 4. JD caught this dog at the pep rally.
He posed for a picture on the rock chair in the courtyard.
Shortly after arriving home LuLu claimed JD's dog as her own.
