Family Gathering

Some of the family gathered at Grandpa's house on Sunday afternoon.
JD shared his tootsie pops with his cousin Elizabeth and new friend Bobby.
JD lined up with everyone for a family picture.
Best of all, Grandpa has some good bike riding space. It was nice and cool today. The high temperature was only supposed to be 98. It's fall in Texas and perfect bike riding weather.

YEAH - It's the Weekend

We are moving quickly toward JD's favorite holiday --- HALLOWEEN. We found these spooky pajamas at the mall.
We celebrated our survival of the first week of school with a little Bob Armstrong dip at El Rancho. JD likes the sunny door at the restaurant.

We've Got Spirit

Today was our first pep rally of the season in preparation for tomorrow's football game. JD practiced his drawing on the chalk board while we waited for the festivities to begin.
Bella the Bulldog is our favorite. She is always happy to pose for a picture with the kiddos.
Here's our yearly picture with the cheerleaders. At some point JD will be old enough that when I shove him into a picture with cheerleaders the moms won't say, "AHHH" anymore. We hope that day doesn't come for a long time.

Circus Day!

We've been seeing ads for the circus for several weeks now and every time we did JD wanted to go. Saturday was FINALLY circus day. In fact, that was JDs first words Saturday morning -- "Is today circus day?"
We went early for the pre show. JD got to ride this fancy motorcycle.
He tried on some of the circus clothes.
His favorite thing was the "silly man" - in other words the clowns. I kept trying to get a picture of him laughing. This is the best I could do. He laughed so hard I thought he might pee his pants.
We were circus celebrities so we got to ride on the circus train.
The thing he remembered from the circus last year was the giant lollipop. He wouldn't stop until he had one.

Last Day of Summer Vacation

Today was our last day of summer vacation. I have to go back to school on Monday. JD and I decided to relive some of our favorite summer activities today.
Opitmus Prime a.k.a. JD helped make brownies this morning. We delivered them to a friend later. My boy better not be one of those kids who goes off to college without the ability to make macaroni and cheese from the box.
We did the Big Bubble Bee Bop with Miss Staci.
We had lunch at JD's favorite restaurant.
We swam at the pool.
And finally, we relaxed in a chair and dried off before going home. We are sad for summer to end but you know what comes next???? YOU DON'T????
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??!!

JD's Coat of Many Colors

JD learned the story of Joseph in Primary on Sunday. His grocery bag "coat of many colors" says Joseph forgave his brothers. I can forgive. I'm sure his lesson was on forgiveness but the part of the story that JD remembered what that his brothers put blood on his coat and threw him in a hole. JD always remembers the bloody parts. What a boy!

We're Having a Heat Wave . . .

. . . a tropical heat wave. I love summer vacation! Unfortunately, it corresponds with summer heat and this year has been one of the hottest. I have run out of indoor things to do with little boys. Here's what we did to try to pass some time this weekend.
I thought maybe if we went and looked at Halloween things it would make the cool weather come faster. This store also had the Christmas decorations out but I just wasn't ready for that yet.
JD LOVES all kinds of spooky things. I tried to buy one of these cool skeletons to decorate our car with for the trunk of treat event at church. George talked me out of it. He convinced me that not all of the small children would think they were fun. Some might actually be SCARED by it.
We also went to our local farm supply store. JD contemplated which dog treat to get for LuLu. This display had lots of snouts and ears to choose from. This is also one of George's customers. He works on the machinery that shrink wraps these yummy treats.
The baby chicks were also interesting and only cost $2.25 each. Now that is a pet we can afford. I don't think you can potty train a chicken though so we had to pass.
The only outdoor activity we do these days involves the pool. Last night we watched a movie by the pool after some swim time. JD had a front row seat for Madagascar 2.

Water Park Fun

JD had a fun time at the Great Wolf Lodge water park.
He stood still for about 2 seconds so this picture could be taken.
The squirting starfish was fun UNTIL . . .
. . . he found this slide. Which was fun UNTIL . . .
. . . he found this bigger slide. We almost couldn't get him off this one. We did it over and over again.
This was the biggest slide JD was allowed on since he is not 42 inches tall yet. We took turns catching at the bottom and climbing up to the top of the slide with him.
He is headed back to the top for another ride. WOO HOO!!!

Our SUPER Vacation!

Before you get the scoop on our FABULOUS vacation I have some bad news.
While we were on vacation Libby died of distemper. Poor girl was apparently sick when we adopted her. After half a dozen trips to the vet it became obvious she was REALLY sick. She was a sweetie and taught LuLu how to play ball.

NOW FOR THE FUN!!
I took so many picture I had a hard time deciding what to post.
We went to the Great Wolf Lodge.
Great Wolf is a resort with all kinds of fun things to do but the biggest attraction was the indoor water park.
JD played and played and played in the water. These green and yellow tree house slides were his favorite.
Every few minutes this giant bucket would dump water on the swimmers.
We went to Medieval Times for dinner on the night we arrived. Here is JD with Dad and our friend Noah outside the castle.
This gentleman was guarding the torture museum. We decided we didn't need to be tortured on this evening.
We had lunch at the Rain forest Cafe.
Dad had to make a trip to the Bass Pro Shops. While he shopped JD and I drove the boats.
The Great Wolf Lodge had a fun arcade. JD played some games and rode the motorcycle.
This little area in the lobby came to life several times during the day and told a story about mother nature. Once JD figured out that the trees sang we had to be there for every performance. It was just like Night At The Museum when things started coming to life.
After the evening performance was story time and picture with the Wolf.
Kids at the lodge got these electronic magic wands and were running all over the resort trying to figure out their "quests." JD didn't understand the whole concept of the scavenger hunt quest but he did know that every kid had a wand and when you waved it at stuff it came to life. After a couple days I finally gave in and got him a wand. We went all over the hotel waving our magic wand at things.
No vacation would be complete without a little dessert indulgence. We ordered these chocolate goodies and shared with our friends.
After everything was eaten JD and Brian played with the leftover chocolate. This was the last evening before we left. By this time at night JD was so silly it was almost as if someone had slipped him a little beer. He thought EVERYTHING was HILARIOUS!
We are happy to be home now but the end of vacation is always a little sad.
