Four Pledge Day

You can never pledge allegiance to the flag too many times.  Thursday was a record for me.  Cub Scouts did the flag ceremony that morning --- Pledge #1.
Then it was in to JD's morning assembly --- Pledge #2.  My own school's pledge was #3.
Last, but not least, we went to pack meeting for Pledge #4.  The pack made these cool airplanes and then had a contest to see whose plane was fastest.  Pack meeting is the organized chaos that little boys love and that wears moms out.

What has changed?

This will be my 23rd year of teaching -- How in the world did that happen??  I am sometimes asked how school has changed over the years.
We work harder than ever but still have time for practical jokes.
They still pack the kiddos in like sardines.  Here is what 37 kids in a class with only 32 chairs looks like.
THIS is different!  I am embarrassed to say I found this overhead in my file cabinet.  YES - it is so old that it has turned brown.  Everything is computerized power points these days.  I haven't seen anyone use an overhead projector in years.  They have gone the way of ditto machines and film strips.  If you don't know what any of these things are you are too young!

Nothing Exciting

That's what we've been up to -- a whole lot of nothing special.
JD went to his first den meeting of the new year.
These big boys are Wolves now but organizing them is still kind of like herding kittens.
Our favorite Halloween store just opened.  We tried on lots of interesting things including this fish hat.  JD REALLY wants to go to the store and then when we get inside he is still a little afraid of it.
Bulldogs and hotdogs is a fall tradition.  JD had his very first ever FRESHLY made cotton candy.

Lego Fest

Our family went to the conventions center Saturday for Lego Fest and JD was in little boy heaven.  This is one HUGE pile of legos he is sitting on.  He wondered how much money it would cost to buy that many legos.  More money than we have!
There was such cool lego art every where that it was hard to decide what to take a picture of.  This Hulk greeted us at the door.
JD and Dad played some games and created some of their own lego works of art.
Lego Lightning McQueen was pretty amazing.  I wondered if we would have to drag JD away, but, after about three hours he said he was done.  We left and went home where he ----- played with his own much smaller pile of legos.
We have survived the first week of school.  Not everything has gone smoothly but we made it.  Here Gumball tried to help himself to part of JD's lunch.
