Happy Halloween

Halloween continued to provide fun and excitement at school this Friday.
I posed with the girls in my 3rd period class for this picture. Aren't they cute?!
In the afternoon I went to JD's school for fall learning centers. That's what we used to call a Halloween party in the olden days. JD's kindergarten class decorated cookies at one of the centers.
At another center they used M&Ms to make a graph.
Halloween Bingo was also fun.
Everyone sat on the rug for a story. I have new respect for for JD's teacher, Mrs. McKaskle. I don't know how she has the energy to do this ALL DAY LONG!! After only 2 hours I was EXHAUSTED!! I'm used to being around kids all day -- BUT -- not ones that tug at you with sticky fingers.
There is a strict no costume rule at JD's school. After the party I had one more class to teach. Bowie doesn't have any silly rules about not dressing up so JD put on his costume and helped with that last class. They were happy to eat the leftover cookies from the kindergarten party.

Trunk or Treat

Halloween is all about Trunk or Treat.
JD and his friends Ayumi and Skeleton prepared to pass out candy.
Lots of little ones lined up for treats.
The snake was SUPER SPOOKY!
A painted face made the whole experience more fun.

Giant Tortoise

This giant tortoise visited JD's voyager class. It was interesting to watch it munch down on an apple.

Voting and Mopping

November 2 is election day. WOO HOO!!!! Election day is like the Super Bowl and the World Series put together for Government teachers. We went and voted early on Saturday. JD helped! The brainwashing has to begin early.
When I got out the mop this weekend JD thought he HAD to help. He told me he wanted to be a custodian like the ones at school. I'm glad he appreciates the hard work that custodians do, Grandpa would be proud. I am hoping that he will get some more ambitious career aspirations AND that he'll still wants to help me mop the floor when he's old enough to actually HELP.

Happy Birthday!

JD made dad a delicious cupcake for his birthday. He told dad if he didn't have a family he could eat the big cupcake himself and he wouldn't have to share. But then who would have made the cupcake????

Pumpkins and Legos

This fun pumpkin patch sets up every year across the street from school. It is always fun to play with the pumpkins and pick out one to take home.
This one turned into our jack-o-lantern. JD thought it was fun to take off the "lid."
A Lego store has opened at the mall. OH NO!!!! Can you think of anything little boys like more than Legos? Here is the colorful wall of Legos where you can pick out whatever assortment you want.
JD picked out this Star Wars kit. Legos aren't just plain squares like they used to be. They now require complete, detailed instructions and an engineering background to figure out.

Nerd Day

Not many of my fellow educators would embrace their inner nerd. Here I am with some of our finest students. Hmmmm, I'm feeling a little short!

Twin Day

Quite a few of our finer faculty members participated in twin day today. Besides Pat and I there were a whole crew of kiddos dressed as Ghostbusters. I guess great minds think alike.

Train Cooking

JD likes cooking on fire - BUT -
cooking on the "train" is even more fun. I hope dad teaches him well because this meat is YUMMY!!!
JD's -- OOPS -- I mean Dad's new truck has a step and a hand rail. JD used it to practice a little pole dancing.
Will Halloween ever get here? JD is prepared when it does!

Fall Festival

Today's fun included JD's Elementary School's fall festival.
You've got to fuel up before that kind of event. JD wanted to go to Taco Cabana because, "They have the best tacos."
A ride on the train was fun.
JD put his arms up like he was on a roller coaster. I'm not sure where he learned to do that.
The fire truck was also fun.
It was a warm day and so we had to sit down for a rest. Other fun activities included a demonstration of police dogs and a reptile exhibit. WOW - dogs and snakes - two of JD's favorite things.

Happenings

We've found a new place to eat. The food is good and the best part is . . .
. . . it has a place for JD to play. We've been there twice and both times JD made new friends and played and ate while we ate and talked.
It is the end of our 6 weeks grading period. Here is the note I found on my board from a student who is looking for a few extra points. It's sweet that Marcellus "hearts" me but too bad chalk boards don't come with spell check.
