Book Fair

This week is the book fair at JD's school.  We love book fair days.  I go and eat lunch with JD and then we go in and browse.  Today we left with several snake/bug/predator/monster books.  He's such a boy.
I know you've all seen plenty of pictures of our furry family member - BUT - I got a new, VERY cool camera for mother's day.  Look how zoomed in and clear her picture is!  I'm excited to be able to take pictures of all our summer fun with this new toy.

Meet Gumball

Meet Gumball.  She/he (you can't tell with birds unless you do a blood test) is the newest member of our family.  She is a yellow sided conure.  JD picked her out for his birthday but she can't come home with us until she is weaned and cage trained.  That should be next Saturday.  We'll let you know how she and Lulu get along with one another.  She and JD are already best friends.

Happy 7th Birthday

I can't believe it has been seven whole years since my baby was born.
The one thing JD wanted was a slip and slide.  He couldn't wait to try it out and then had a blast making a muddy mess.  Lulu did not understand why this was fun until I was cleaning up and she lay down in the muddle puddle to cool off.

I made JD an Elephant Piggie cake.  If you don't know who Elephant and Piggie are you don't have
a little boy at home.  Elephant and Piggie are classic first grade literature.

This week's cub scout meeting was a rain gutter regatta.  The boys made their boats out of juice boxes and then raced them down the rain gutters.  JD used his lung power to make it go.

While we were in the grocery store last week JD decided he wanted to try some "funny fruits."  We picked out some things he hadn't eaten before - including this coconut.  Some we liked -- some made us gag.

Spring Campout

In the past I have made a serious "no camping" vow. THEN - my boy joined cub scouts and I had to rethink my position. It's been a long showerless weekend for our family and the boys of pack 535.
Boys in a tree - that could be the theme of the weekend. This very climbable tree was in our campsite and I don't think I ever looked up when there wasn't at least one boy in it.

Our tent was roomy and kept out the sprinkles of rain that we had off and on all weekend. The overcast sky make the weekend cool and comfortable.

The trail through the back of the site led to the lake. We have had so little rain that the lake was way down and quite a hike. In a normal year our site would have been lakeside.

The good news - our campsite was close to the restroom facilities. The bad news - THIS was the restroom facilities.

The boys played badminton.

The pack went to a lecture on snakes with some hands on time at the end.

Bluebonnets were still going strong.

Cactuses were in bloom. Although a bit primative for my taste the campsite was beautiful. We were three tired puppies when we got home Sunday.

Happy Easter

It's been a very busy weekend.

On our last day at school this week JD got to be a pledge leader. YES -- he has a little pledging dyslexia and put his left hand over his "heart."

Thursday evening we went to a flashlight Easter egg hunt with friends. The boys got their faces painted. The face painters were doing a SUPER job with butterflies on girl faces. JD wanted to be the red angry bird. Its clear the painters had more practice doing butterflies than angry birds.

Uncle Keith came and there was a trip to the wildflower center.

JD loves to climb the tower. Since Uncle Keith is in better shape than me he was happy to oblige and I got to take a picture from the bottom of the tower.

JD tried to talk me into this cool backpack. Since the pricetage said $58 I said NO!! Uncle Keith didn't fall for it either.

JD went on a field trip with his class to Inner Space caverns and has been excited to be our "tour guide" and go back. Aunt Nina thought it would be fun too so we made the long trek to Georgetown. We mined for gems . . .

and then hiked down into the cave. This is the formation JD wanted his picture by. He said it looked like a space ship.

The Easter bunny hid some eggs at our house. JD love this "no competition" hunt where he got all the eggs himself. WHEW -- it's a good thing there is no school tomorrow! I need to rest a little.
