Livestrong Marathon

Uncle Keith came to see us this weekend and run the Livestrong marathon.  Rumor had it there were performance enhancing drugs in the water.
We went to see Keith run but would we ever find him in all those thousands of people?
 There he is!
 And - there he goes.
While he was here we did some things that little boys (and big boys for that matter) like to do.  We shopped at Cabellas.  Keith had to pick up some ammo since it is all sold out in Mississippi.
Keith and JD have become addicted to Plants v. Zombies.  The two of them played and played and played and played.  There were a lot of dead zombies by the time Uncle Keith left.

Straws are Big Fun

This little birdie has become a VIP in our family.  It has a BIG personality!  As soon as we get home he chirps that he wants out of his cage.  He loves things that he can chew and and grasp with his foot.  Straws are big fun for little birds.  Give him a minute and he'll have this one out of the cup and twirling it around.

The Week

It looks like my blog has turned into a weekly update.  We just aren't doing much these days to write about.
JD is still going to martial arts class and really enjoying it.  He is almost ready to move up to a colored belt.
He and I went to see The Lion King.  It is a SPECTACULAR show!
JD liked it so much he wanted a t-shirt to wear to school.  We were able to sit up close and on the aisle where the rino walked right by us.  The puppets that they use are SO INTERESTING.  I don't know who dreams up such things.  Broadway shows are high dollar entertainment BUT - this particular show was worth every penny.
My friend Linda retired on Friday and so we all went to lunch to celebrate with her.  It has been sad to see so many of my good friends "graduate."  All the folks in the picture are people I have been working with for 20+ years and it just isn't the same when they leave.

When the Cat's Away . . .

. . . little boys eat cotton candy!
George took JD to the buffet that I loveingly refer to as the "golden feeding trough" and fed him cotton candy --- AND ---
found the character to his game that we have been trying to hunt down for WEEKS.  Where was I while all this fun was taking place ---
--- LEARNING!  The annual Law Related Education workshop is one that I look forward to.  SO - while it may not look as fun as cotton candy - it was still great.

Catching Up

I haven't blogged in quite awhile because I have had some technical difficulties getting my pictures to upload.  I'm not the most technologically savvy person around to say the least.
Saturday was the pinewood derby.  Here is JD with his pack.  You can tell who the winners are based on the smiles.
JD's car raced down this track at less than 3 seconds but that still wasn't fast enough to win.  The electronic timer separated the winners from the losers by less then .1 seconds.
Here's the competition.  Some were pretty and some were fast.  I think the dad's had as much fun (and were more competitive) as the boys.
We had several days of vacation left after George had to go back to work.  Here are some of  the pictures of our fun.  JD's friend Lincoln came to play.  Not only are Lincoln and Lulu not afraid of one another anymore ---- now Lulu thinks he has come to play with her.  She waits patiently for him to throw the green toy.
We went to see the whole new LBJ library.  They have polished and rearranged all the exhibits BUT --- it costs $8 to get in now -- a change I'm certain LBJ would not approve of.
It makes me sad because JD and I have spent many a hot summer afternoon inside this air conditioned, historical playground.  BUT $8 -- WOW -- we are going to have to soak in the air conditioning somewhere else now --- somewhere FREE.
At some point we went to Costco and had pizza.  I think JD could live on Costco pizza if I would let him.

WELL -- now that I've got my technical difficulties ironed out I'll try to do a better job of keeping my blog up to date.

Kung Fu JD

We (meaning JD) has had some trouble with concentration at school.  We (meaning I) decided that maybe doing a little martial arts after school would help.  I don't know if it has improved his concentration -- but it certainly hasn't hurt it.
His class right before Christmas was VERY small and so his instructor let the kids do a little work with weapons.  Watch out - JD is going to be a kung fu master in no time.

Merry Christmas

It's Christmas again -- where did the year go?  JD played with his cousins at Grandma's house on Christmas Eve.  The others are younger than him but JD enjoys being the big guy for a change.
Kids ran wild while the adults debated about where to pose for a family picture.  I wasn't the official photographer.  When I get the "real" photo I'll post that one too.  This one may not have everyone's best side but was much more entertaining.
It was a Skylander's Christmas.  JD got lots of skylanders and skylander themed items.
As always, Lulu is puzzled by all the mess.

After opening his own presents JD helped dad with his.
