Build a Bear

When we go to the mall Build-A-Bear is one of our regular stops - BUT - today we actually BUILT a bear. I may have set myself up for trouble. We found a spider man costume for the bears and JD just HAD to have a spider man bear.

He picked out his costume.
He put a heart in his bear.

Dad helped him bath the new bear.

Ali helped him dress his new bear. Ali is one of my former students who is sweet as can be and helped us with our bear (and with a $3 coupon). Hooray for knowing kids who work at the mall!!

After we got home JD put on his own spider man jamas so he would match his new bear.

Home Sick

What do you do when you're home sick but not THAT sick???

You play with a bucket of clothespins while you watch Spongebob. We made a trip to Wal-mart this morning to get a few things. When I unpacked my bags JD wanted my $1.50 bag of clothespins to play with. Who knew that he would find them entertaining enough to play with all afternoon and evening??? So much for expensive toys.
We also addressed our valentines.

It turns out, after JD's fever went away he got a rash. The rash is caused by a CONTAGIOUS virus so we can't go to school but we aren't laying in bed sick. It's been a long couple of days of trying to entertain little boys at the house.

So Much For The Weekend

JD started running a fever on Thursday afternoon -- SO -- Friday morning we were at the Doctor's office. JD was very disturbed by the fact that some other little girl was moving the chairs from around the little table where they were supposed to be. As soon as he got a chance he put his pencil behind his ear (just like Handy Manny) and told me he had to put the chairs back. He straightened the waiting room right up. Oh dear, my poor little O.C.D. boy. The Doc says he has a virus and to keep giving him Tylenol.

He felt good enough Saturday morning to feed Lu Lu her Scooby Snacks. We are still going to take it easy. I think today will be "pajama day" for us.

Happy Inauguration Day!!

Inauguration day is like Christmas to Government teachers. It doesn't matter who is taking office but THIS particular inauguration day was particularly exciting.
To celebrate I hung up my new Barack Obama poster.
I wore my new T- shirt. It took this picture of myself sitting at school. It's very hard to take a picture of yourself this way that doesn't exaggerate your double chin. If I somehow come into money I'm going to get if fixed by one of those Beverly Hills doctors that make the stars look perfect.
My students sat quiet as little church mice and watched history in the making. It was all very exciting.

Happy MLK Day

After spending the morning watching the Handy Manny marathon and doing chores I was afraid I wouldn't have anything to show for my day off. When I sat down to look at the paper at lunch I read that a Barack Obama store had opened in town and decided I HAD to go. Apparently LOTS and LOTS of other people also HAD to go because it was PACKED!!! JD was not happy about the situation and I forgot my camera so I couldn't document it. There was a news crew filming while we were there. Here is a link to the story.

After buying my new Obama poster I had to make a trip to the teacher store to have it laminated. JD is crazy about skeletons. Anytime we go into a book store and find an anatomy book he wants to look at the pictures. He was such a good sport about the Obama store I figured he earned an educational poster. Maybe he'll be the next Doogie Houser MD.

Landon's Birthday

Our friend Landon invited us to his birthday party this weekend. We had a SUPER FUN TIME!!! I think this was the best birthday EVER. What made it so special you ask?? Let me show you.
Of course there were yummy cupcakes. BUT, every birthday party has those. Landon's party was in a giant warehouse with bouncing things.
JD enjoyed this super tall bouncy slide.
JD let his young man help him climb. He really didn't need any help but JD thought it was best not to hurt the guy's feelings.
Best of all there was BOUNCING, and lots of it.
THANKS Landon for inviting us to your party.

Handy Manny

JD had been enjoying his new Handy Manny toys that Santa brought. Handy Manny has his own show on the Disney channel. He is a spanglish speaking repairman who can fix anything.

Donut Kid

We discovered over the holidays that JD loves donuts. (So does dad - the donut doesn't fall far from the tree - ha ha ha ha) We went to get donuts last night. After having TWO JD was worried that dad would eat the rest and he wouldn't get any more. I convinced him to write his name on the box and that way everyone would know that the remaining donuts were his and they would be safe. It must have worked because there were donuts left this evening.
WOW - he writes his name better than some of my 12th graders.

Shoe Shopping

Friday was the last day of our winter break. Since dad had to go to work JD and I decided to go shoe shopping. WELL, I should say I decided and dragged JD along. He's such a boy! Even though we were looking for HIM shoes he just wasn't having much fun. He has a very narrow foot and is hard to fit. After trying on shoes in 3 different stores JD said, "I want to see toys." We walked into Nordstrom and he had a little break down. "THERE ARE NO TOYS HERE!!" Dang, that boy is perceptive.

A little time playing in the Pottery Barn kitchen made him happy.

After a little play time he plopped himself down into a little boy sized chair and said, "I need to rest at the mall." (notice his new shoes)

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!! We managed to stay up until midnight last night to ring in the new year. JD liked the firecrakers at midnight --- but Lu Lu not so much. We enjoyed some time today at the park.
JD and Lu Lu investigated the water.
JD enjoyed the playground equipment. It was a beautiful day to be outside without a jacket.
